Water-rock interaction serves as a fundamental cornerstone in safeguarding sustainable utilization of groundwater resources, while simultaneously exerting a profound impact on diverse domains, including but not limited to oil and gas exploration, geothermal energy harnessing, carbon sequestration and storage, and beyond. Its pivotal role not only fosters the socio-economic development but also underscores its critical relevance to addressing contemporary environmental challenges worldwide.
With a global perspective, the 19th International Symposium on Water Rock Interaction will take place in the city of Beijing, China, from 20 to 25 June 2027, and is endorsed by the Committee of International Association of Geochemistry (IAGC). Known as WRI-19, the conference is themed as Groundwater Resilience and Sustainable Development, and will feature 29 parallel sessions covering a wide range of topics, including: groundwater resources and the ecological environment, genesis of groundwater quality, groundwater and human health, deep hydrogeology and carbon neutrality, groundwater–surface water interactions, pollution control and remediation technologies, and new techniques and methods in groundwater research.
